- Scirus - Done by the scholarly publisher, Elsevier, this database allows you to search for scholarly journals and/or Web sites with significant content. Some full text available through the Pfau Library's ScienceDirect subscription (watch for the clickable logo). For other articles, check the desired journal title in the Pfau Library's online catalog and/or in the Pfau Library's full text electronic journals list. Order anything not here through the Interlibrary Loan service. Ask a reference librarian for assistance.

- Search Edgar Databases - includes Mutual Funds - The Securities and Exchange Commission offers several services to visitors of its web site. This portion of the web site prints Mutual Funds Activity Reports, based on time parameter, dating back to January 1, 1994. This service requires prior knowledge of Securities and Exchange Commission reports (i.e. 13G, 13D, NSAR) and the name of the specific funds to search. Some reports are privacy enhanced and cannot be read.
- SearchMash - Unbranded beta site for Google. This is the place where they try out new search algorithms and results displays.
- SeaWiFS Project - This page provides access into the background, status and documentation for NASA's global ocean color monitoring mission called SeaWiFS (NASA's Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor project). Brilliant images and special resources for teachers.
- SEC Corporate Filings - Extensive financial information for all companies which are publicly traded. (Look for file type 10k for the annual financial report.)
- SEC EDGAR Database - Selected electronic filings by corporations to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (1994-present). Supports access by web browsers and anonymous FTP. Note that annual reports are not included here, but are available as part of Form 10-KSB, which are required to be filed on EDGAR. Also searchable by ticker symbols.

- SETI Institute Online - The SETI Institute is a non-profit research organization specializing in scientific research on life in the universe with a special emphasis on the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). They do not research UFOs although they provide a few links to places that do.

- SoCalFire - A Yahoo group used primarily by firefighters. Nonmembers may search the messages by keyword and read the results.
- SOCDS Census Data - This system provides Census data for metropolitan statistical areas, metropolitan cities and suburbs for 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000. SOCDS provides two options for selecting Census data based on the Office of Management and Budget's(OMB) definition of metropolitan areas; 1) the past 1990 Standard for Metropolitan Statistical Areas and Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs/PMSAs) as established in June 30, 1999 and 2) the present 2000 Standard including both Metropolitan and Micropolitan Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) as established in December 2003. In addition, intercensal estimated poverty rate data are presented for 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1998 in this system.

- Social Science Database Archive (SSDBA) - SSDBA is a data specialty center established in 1991 for the support of faculty research and instruction in the social sciences throughout the California State University (CSU) system. The SSDBA acquires and processes social science data from a wide variety of sources including ICPSR, the Roper Center, and the Field Institute in California. The SSDBA allows for interactive full-text search and retrieval of documents in the SSDBA collection and a variety of on-line information services that include Dow Jones and Legislate.

- State Agency Databases - This one site gives access to the publicly accessible databases for all fifty states and arranges them by state and then agency. Most of this information cannot be found via Internet search engines. Subject matter varies.

- StockMaster Home Page - This commercial web site is designed for individuals tracking the most current and historical price performance information on stocks and mutual funds. The site is maintained by StockMaster, a privately held, web-based financial services company. StockMaster was the first to offer stock and mutual fund price performance charts on the web. Delayed stock and mutual fund quotes and historical charts are available free to individual investors. All information is provided by Standard & Poor's ComStock and its affiliates on the Marketplace.net. The site is easy to navigate and charts are large and clear.
