- Database of Award-Winning Children's Literature - An excellent search engine and interface allows you to search for award-winning children's literature by a variety of criteria.
- DataQuest - From the California Department of Education DataQuest provides data regarding California schools and districts at state, county, district, school, and other levels. Includes school performance, student demographics, staffing, student misconduct (expulsions), and other areas.
- Dave's ESL Cafe - A good general site with ESL information, student forums, and quizzes.
- Debate Central - From the National Center for Policy Analysis, includes resources for debaters and speechmakers. Focuses on the current National Forensic League topic.
- Defense Link - Official site of the U.S. Department of Defense, features current news and quick access to other DOD sites (Army, Navy, etc.).
- Diccionarios.com - A more comprehensive Spanish-English dictionary than many others online.
- Dictionary of Occupational Titles - Site compiled and maintained by personnel at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
- Dictionary.com - A handy English dictionary. Includes etymologies.
- Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française - L'Académie française fut fondée par le Cardinal Richelieu en 1635 avec pour mission principale d'écrire un dictionnaire du français. Huit éditions du dictionnaire ont vu le jour, depuis la première en 1694 jusqu'à la huitième en 1935; la neuvième est en cours de rédaction.
- Digests of Significant Legislation - Prepared annually by the California State Senate Office of Floor Analyses, 1995-present.
- Digital Dante - Includes the full text of the Divine Comedy (Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso), plus background information and an interesting collection of illustrations. From Columbia University. No longer being updated, but material at the site is still good and accessible.
- Digital Library Network for Engineering and Technology - A collection of "learning objects" for students and instructors of engineering and technology. Free registration is required for access to materials, but all cataloging information is made available to site visitors. Several digital library project reports on the DLNet model are available, for those interested in digital collections and metadata standards.
- Digital Library of Mathematical Functions - This resource will become a replacement for Abramowitz and Stegun's, Handbook of Mathematical Functions. As such it will be a major new mathematical reference source on the World Wide Web for special functions and their applications.
- Digital Scores Collection, Loeb Music Library - High-quality images of original music manuscripts from Harvard's Loeb Library. Composers include Mozart, Verdi, and members of the Bach family.
- Dino Russ's Lair - Dinosaur and vertebrate paleontology information. "Dino Russ" is the Geologist and Acting Head of the Coal Section of the Illinois State Geological Survey. This ever-growing list of well-chosen links is an excellent gateway to paleontology resources on the Web.
- Dinobase - A database of dinosaur species with the years they were named done by the Paleontology Research Group at University of Bristol in England. Search by species, date, or person who named it (author).
- Direct Search - By Gary Price, co-author of the book, "The Invisible Web."
- Directory of Electronic Journals in the Health Sciences - Arranges peer-reviewed medical journals by title, provides publisher information and a link to the web site, and indicates whether any full-text is provided online. Also includes a list of free health journals on the web. Designed for librarians, this will be helpful to anyone looking for health-related electronic journals.
- Directory of Electronic Theses and Dissertations Currently in Progress - "This site serves as a clearing-house for online information related to electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) in the humanities. The site's most important feature is a directory of most (maybe not quite all) of the ETDs that are currently in progress in the various disciplines that comprise the academic humanities."
- Discovery School.com: Lesson Plans Library - "Lesson plans for elementary, middle and high school students. Lesson plans correspond to Assignment Discovery and TLC Elementary School programming. Find hundreds of original lesson plans, all written by teachers for teachers. Use the pull-down menus below to browse by subject, grade, or both."
- Distance Education Clearinghouse - The University of Wisconsin-Extension's distance education Web site, containing information and links to other distance learning resources.
- Distance Learning on the Net - Links to programs, courses, and research on distance learning.
- Ditto.com - Searches photographs and graphics. Highest quality images require a fee.
- DOAJ: Directory of Open Access Journals - "The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the
visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly
journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact.
The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access
scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to
guarantee the content. All subject areas and languages will be covered."
- Documenting the American South, Library of Southern Literature - Collection of electronic texts of famous works by southern writers.
- Dogpile - Covers most major search engines and several small ones.
- DoubleTrust - Allows you to compare searches between Yahoo and Google.
- Douglass: Archives of American Public Address - Text of American speeches, mainly from the 19th century, but featuring some 20th century speakers. Find speakers by name or time period. Also offers links to professional speech organizations.
